Raleigh & Greenville Variable Speed System Installation

Variable speed systems are an easy and reliable way to keep your home comfortable throughout the year while cutting energy costs.

What are the benefits of a variable speed system?

A variable speed system has the ability to change its output speed automatically based on demand from your comfort control. There are a few different products on the market now that have variable speed components, below you can learn what these items are to make sure when looking at replacing your HVAC system, that your’re getting what you want.

Variable Speed Furnace- (Heating) A variable speed furnace has a blower motor (moves the air around your home) that can vary its speed based on a few inputs from your comfort control.  During the winter months when the furnace first starts up, it will slowly bring the blower motor up to speed so you don’t get that ohh so familiar blast of cool air… this also allows the heating cell within the furnace to warm up so when the air starts blowing at its designed speed, the air is nice and toasty!  A variable speed furnace also incorporates a 2-stage or modulating gas valve for more consistent heating all winter long. (Cooling) The variable speed motor just keeps giving and giving…during the cooling months, it can help reduce humidity levels within your home as the blower motor will slow down when a call for dehumidification occurs, slowing the air down allowing for more moisture removal.

Variable Speed Air Handler- (Heating) A variable speed air handler has a blower motor (moves the air around your home) that can vary its speed based on a few inputs from your comfort control.  During the winter months when the system first starts up, it will slowly bring the blower motor up to speed so you don’t get that ohh so familiar blast of cool air… this also allows the coil within the air handler to warm up so when the air starts blowing at its designed speed, the air is nice and toasty! Our air handlers ensure the warmest heating possible with your air handler/ heat pumps system. Variable Speed Outdoor Unit- These systems are the ultimate comfort machines. Our heat pumps and air conditioners can change their output from 30%-100%! These systems vary the refrigerant flow through the compressor, ultimately increasing or decreasing the “size” of your system to best suit your home for best comfort and dehumidification.  Most single stage systems in the Carolina’s are over-sized for a majority of the year because they are either on/off.  The variable speed systems will adjust their speed (much like the gas pedal in your car), based on demand from the comfort control.  In addition to increased comfort, these systems can greatly reduce energy use overall, as they operate at lower speeds the majority of the time as they’re not having to play “catch-up” from cycling off like a single stage system—imagine a system running at 35%, that’s a fraction of the normal speed, reducing overall air noise vs single stage units blasting ON…..then OFF….then ON…you get the idea.
